A Brown Company, Inc. (ABCI) believes in the fundamental principle of loving and caring. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is basically part of ABCI’s corporate culture by practicing responsibility and accountability. As a socially responsible corporate citizen, ABCI follows these four pillars of CSR:
1. Promotes responsible leadership - one that exemplifies integrity, values, spirituality and genuine concern of all the company’s business partners and stakeholders.
2. Heralds stewardship - one that improves the condition of not only the company but also of the community it serves.
3. Improves industrial peace in the work place - one that ensures employees decent work environment, and provides customers with quality products and services.
4. Builds relevance to society - one that understands the force that is driving the society or the community by being relevant to issues and concerns of general interest.
Corporate Social Responsibility
A Brown Company, Inc. and its subsidiaries and associates employ a collaborative approach with the various sectors and communities they are engaged in. It has continued to undertake sustainable CSR programs in 2017 that would further boost growth.
The ABCI Scholarship Program was established in 2011 as a personal commitment of Chairman Emeritus Dr. Walter W. Brown to the indigenous Higaonon people, who have adapted him as Datu Lumalantao ("Visionary"). There were eight (8) scholars in 2017. Two (2) are in third year at BS Agriculture at Misamis Oriental State College of Agriculture. Two (2) are also in third year at the Pool Community College taking up BS Business Administration. One (1) is in second year taking up the same course. Two (2) are juniors at Opol National High School, and one (1) is a graduate student enrolled at Mindanao University of Science and Technology.
PCPC Bright is PCPC's investment for the future as it believes in the power of education as a tool in realizing a sustainable society. It presentably has five (5) scholars from the Western Institute of Technology and PHINMa University of Iloilo. Through the PCPC Bright Program, learning materials were donated to the public elementary and hightschools in Conception in 2017. These includes sound systems, laptops, printers, and projectors.
Peakpower Soccsargen Inc. (PSI) collaborated with the Department od Education on their Adopt-A-School program by implementing a two-month continuous feeding program in three (3) schools in its host baranggay in General Santos City.
In partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, ABCI HR organized and facilitated bloodletting activities in Cagayan de Oro in August and December 2017 with a total of 24 successful blood donors. This is an annual humanitarian activity of the A Brown Group of Companies.
PCPC's banner program for health, the PCPC Cooperation Alliance on Restorative Efforts and Sustenance (PCPC CARES), continued to provide medical and dental missions in its host community in partnership with Project Buligay of the provincial government of Iloilo and the municipality of Conception. More than 1,000 children and adult patients were treated this year.
Aside from this annual program, the PCPC plant's medical personnel also do regular rounds in the community and offer free medical consultation to the residents.
ABCI facilitated community meetings around its properties (Xavierville, St Therese Mountain View Homes, Adelaida Park) and near Villa Verde Subdivision, a relocation site of the city government of Cagayan de Oro to assist in a community petition for the concreting of an access road from Upper Balulang to Taguanao-Pelaez Bridge. The petition was submitted to the City Council and led to the initial concreting of a 1.2-kilometer barangay road by the city government Concerted efforts are now being enlisted for the project to be finished.
To sustain partnership with IPs in Kalabugao, ABCI is involved in providing financial assistance, meant to help preserve peace and order in the community.
Likewise, PCPC conducted several social development programs for the community in 2017. It sustained its Disaster and Emergency Response Program by holding regular meetings for its volunteers and conducting a training program during its Anniversary Celebration in August.
PCPC continues to engage in dialogues with other groups such as Value and Character Formation workshops for various people's organisations. A formal workshop was conducted in December 2017 for elementary and high school teachers, while monthly meetings were held for continuous improvement of the people who are directly impacted by the project.
The environment remains the company's main advocacy. Its flagship projects for 2017 were the Green Program for Active Reforestation and Conservation (Green PARC) and Project Baybay.
With around 6,500 trees and over 10,000 mangroves planted, Green PARC will soon expand in other areas and islands in the Municipality of Conception. PSI launched the Green PARC program in General Santos as well by initially planting 1,000 trees near the Silway river to avoid further erosion on the area. A group headed by the barangay chairman in the community was tapped as partner to maintain the area where the trees were planted.
Meanwhile, Project Baybay aims for cleaner and better coastal environment through regular clean-up activities. During the 2017 celebration of Tampisaw Festival of the LGU, more than 300 kilos if trash were collected.
